Am I the only one constantly asking, what is it now?! From global controversies and politics to crime and the devaluing of people as human beings, it feels like there’s always something weighing on us. While many of these things are beyond our control, leaving us to watch from afar in despair, it’s crucial to take time for ourselves.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed by day-to-day obligations and forget to pour into our own cups. After my Lupus diagnosis in 2011, I started to look at life differently. There’s something about being told you have an illness with no cure—one that could affect you for your entire life—that changes how you see things.
At first, I went through the “God, why me?” phase, angry about the situation I was in. Years later, I regret the time I spent worrying about things that didn’t directly affect me—especially things and people that didn’t choose me. I see this so often with others too taking on tasks they wish they could do but simply don’t have the energy or time for.
Choosing ourselves is hard. It feels selfish. But I wonder—if we decided to show up fully for ourselves first, how much better could we serve others?
Now is the perfect time to try something different! Go for a hike, read a new novel, or take that dance class you’ve been thinking about. Too often, I hear people stuck in the same routine: wake up, go to work, come home, repeat. But life is more than just a cycle of responsibilities—make sure you’re doing things that bring you joy.
How do you prioritize your peace?
